Burial Procedures
To arrange funerals and washing of the deceased, please contact the Rabita.
The deceased is buried in the municipality of residence or the designated Muslim cemetery, for which a burial permit must be obtained from a doctor or coroner, especially if the cause of death is unclear or the death was sudden and occurred at home or outside. The family agrees with the funeral home of their choice, or if the deceased was of limited income, an agreement is made with the funeral home contracted by social services. The burial officials arrange for the washing of the deceased at Hartman Hospital for Helsinki residents or Katerina Hospital for Vantaa residents. An imam can be arranged to conduct the funeral prayer, which is usually performed at the cemetery before burial.
